These are the ice maker faults we handle most across Fort Worth β ice makers built into refrigerators and freezers, all major brands. We quote the exact cost before any work begins, with the $69 diagnostic applied to the repair.
The most common call. Usually a failed ice maker module, a bad water inlet valve, or a frozen fill tube blocking water from ever reaching the tray. We test the valve and module rather than swapping parts on a guess.
A slug of ice in the fill tube stops water getting to the ice maker. Thawing it is the easy part β the real fix is correcting whatever let it freeze, usually a valve leaking through or a freezer running too cold.
Common on Samsung French-door refrigerators. The ice room loses its air seal, humid air gets in, and everything freezes together. The lasting fix is a full defrost plus resealing the ice room β not just chipping it out.
Low water pressure to the valve, a partially clogged supply line, or a water filter that's overdue. We check pressure at the valve to separate a plumbing issue from an appliance fault.
Usually an old water filter or stale ice absorbing freezer odours, but it can also be a supply line issue. We identify which before you buy another filter.
A water inlet valve that doesn't fully close, or a misaligned fill cup. Water runs down and freezes in the bottom of the freezer β the puddle is a symptom, not the fault.
Dispenser motor, auger, or a door flap frozen shut. Ice is being made but can't get out β a different problem from an ice maker that isn't producing.
Control boards and ice maker modules sometimes need a proper reset cycle, but a genuine failure looks identical from the outside. We test before condemning the module.

Seeing a code or alarm? We diagnose the fault behind it rather than clearing it and hoping.
It depends on which part failed β a water inlet valve, a fill tube thaw and reseal, or a full ice maker assembly are three different repairs. We diagnose first and quote the exact cost before any work, with the $69 diagnostic applied to the repair.
Sometimes. If the module itself has failed, replacing the assembly is the correct repair and it's still far cheaper than a new refrigerator. But plenty of ice maker calls turn out to be a valve or a frozen fill tube, which cost considerably less β so we always test before recommending the bigger job.
Yes, but only if it's done properly. The known fix is a complete defrost plus resealing the air leaks around the ice room, and on some models an updated ice maker assembly. Done right, it stops coming back every few weeks.
Air trapped in the line after a filter change is common β run several gallons through the dispenser to purge it. If ice doesn't return within 24 hours, the filter housing may be seated wrong or the valve has an actual fault.
